LG Sinha hoists National Flag at Lok Bhavan, pays tribute to freedom fighters

SRINAGAR, AUGUST 15: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Saturday hoisted the National Flag at Lok Bhavan in Srinagar on the occasion of the 80th Independence Day, paying tribute to freedom fighters and civilians who lost their lives in natural calamities while calling for greater focus on inclusive growth, women and youth empowerment, employment generation and environmental sustainability.
A ceremonial police contingent presented the National Salute following the flag hoisting ceremony.
Paying homage to the countless freedom fighters who sacrificed their lives for the country, Sinha recalled the difficult journey, struggle and sacrifices that culminated in India’s independence.
“On this historic day, I join all citizens in paying heartfelt tributes to our founding fathers and the valiant sons and daughters of Mother India who sacrificed their lives for country’s freedom. Let us strive to realize their cherished dreams of building a peaceful, prosperous Jammu Kashmir and a great nation,” he said.
The Lieutenant Governor also paid tribute to civilians who tragically lost their lives in natural calamities this year.
He said the most meaningful tribute to the martyrs and freedom fighters would be a collective resolve to work with integrity and protect the freedom achieved through their sacrifices.
“The truest tribute we can pay to our martyrs and freedom fighters is to resolve to work with integrity and safeguard our hard-earned freedom,” Sinha said.
Calls for inclusive growth
While acknowledging the challenges ahead, Sinha expressed confidence in India’s potential to emerge as a global leader. He called upon citizens to work collectively towards building an inclusive society that places public interest at the centre and extends compassion and support to underprivileged sections.
He stressed the importance of balanced economic and social development, particularly the empowerment of women.
“Let us strive for balanced growth and the economic empowerment of women to build a more humane and compassionate society,” he said.
The Lieutenant Governor also identified youth empowerment, job creation and environmental sustainability as key priorities.
“We must prioritize empowering women and youth, generating jobs and ensuring environmental sustainability,” he said.
Focus on heritage and environment
Sinha highlighted several ongoing initiatives aimed at promoting sustainable development in Jammu and Kashmir.
He pointed to the revitalisation of heritage sites, restoration of ancient monuments and large-scale afforestation drives as examples of efforts aimed at protecting the region’s cultural and natural heritage while pursuing development.
“Our ongoing initiatives, such as revitalizing heritage sites, restoring ancient monuments and undertaking massive afforestation drives, stand as a testament to our steadfast commitment to sustainable development,” he said.
The Lieutenant Governor also emphasised the role of citizens in achieving the vision of a self-reliant Jammu Kashmir and Viksit Bharat by 2047.
He called upon people across the Union Territory to dedicate themselves to nation-building and stressed the importance of transparency and accountability in governance.
Commends security personnel, sportspersons
Sinha congratulated personnel of the J&K Police and Central Armed Police Forces who were awarded gallantry medals on the eve of Independence Day.
He also commended sportspersons from Jammu and Kashmir for their achievements and their contribution to bringing recognition and pride to the Union Territory.
The Lieutenant Governor urged citizens to renew their commitment to serving the nation with greater vigour, sincerity and dedication, while working collectively towards a peaceful, prosperous and developed Jammu Kashmir and a stronger India.
