Educational Institutions, Government Departments celebrate 80th Independence Day across Kashmir Division

SRINAGAR, AUGUST 15: Educational institutions and government departments across Kashmir Division celebrated the 80th Independence Day on Friday with patriotic fervour and enthusiasm, with flag-hoisting ceremonies, cultural programmes and addresses highlighting the importance of nation-building, education, skill development, entrepreneurship and civic responsibility.
The celebrations witnessed participation from government officials, faculty members, students, trainees, parents, security personnel and members of the public at different venues across the Valley.
Skill Development Department
At Government Polytechnic for Women, Srinagar, Director, Skill Development Department (SDD), Owais Ahmad, hoisted the National Flag as part of the Independence Day celebrations.
The ceremony, held on the college grounds, was attended by senior officials from the Police and paramilitary forces, representatives of the Directorate of Skill Development, principals of polytechnic colleges and ITIs from across the region, faculty members and students from various polytechnic colleges and ITIs.
The programme was followed by the National Anthem, setting a solemn and patriotic tone for the celebrations.
Addressing the gathering, Ahmad highlighted the importance of skill development in nation-building and called upon students to make full use of vocational training opportunities to enhance their capabilities and contribute to local as well as national development.
He emphasised the significant role being played by technical education institutions in empowering youth and preparing them for employment and entrepreneurship. He also appreciated the collaboration between training providers and industry partners in strengthening communities and creating opportunities for young people.
Ahmad thanked the participating institutions and security personnel for their support in ensuring the smooth conduct of the programme.
The celebrations also featured patriotic songs performed by students and trainees, reflecting their enthusiasm, discipline and commitment.
Students of Government Polytechnic for Women who had excelled in the recently held examinations were also felicitated during the programme. Ahmad appreciated their hard work and dedication and encouraged them to continue pursuing excellence in their academic and professional journeys.
The programme highlighted the Skill Development Department’s focus on combining patriotic values with practical skill-building and preparing young people for meaningful employment and entrepreneurship opportunities.
JKEDI celebrations
The Jammu and Kashmir Entrepreneurship Development Institute (JKEDI) celebrated the 80th Independence Day at its main campus at Sempora, Pampore.
The National Flag was hoisted by JKEDI Director Mohd. Younis Malik in the presence of officers and officials of the institute.
Addressing the employees, Malik underlined the importance of entrepreneurship and self-employment as key drivers of economic development in Jammu and Kashmir.
He stressed the need to expand entrepreneurial activities and create greater opportunities for sustainable livelihoods and employment generation in the Union Territory.
Malik also reiterated the vision of “Viksit Bharat @2047”, stating that entrepreneurship and self-employment would have an important role in shaping a developed and economically empowered India.
He called upon the officers and officials of JKEDI to work with renewed commitment towards strengthening the entrepreneurial ecosystem in Jammu and Kashmir and empowering aspiring entrepreneurs to establish sustainable enterprises.
The celebrations concluded with a renewed pledge by the officers and officials of the institute to contribute towards the socio-economic development of Jammu and Kashmir and the larger national vision of Viksit Bharat by 2047.
Government College of Education
At Government College of Education (Institute of Advanced Studies in Education), M.A. Road, Srinagar, the 80th Independence Day was celebrated with patriotic fervour and a strong sense of national pride.
The National Flag was hoisted by Professor Seema Naz, Nodal Principal, Kashmir Division Colleges, and Principal, GCOE, who also took the ceremonial salute.
The National Anthem was sung following the flag hoisting, creating a solemn atmosphere on the college campus.
The ceremony was attended by teaching and non-teaching staff as well as a large number of students. The campus was decorated for the occasion, reflecting the themes of national unity, patriotism and the constitutional values associated with Independence Day.
Addressing the gathering, Naz extended greetings to the staff and students and highlighted the historical significance of Independence Day. She paid tribute to the freedom fighters and national leaders whose sacrifices and contributions paved the way for India’s independence.
She emphasised that educational institutions have an important responsibility in shaping responsible, informed and socially conscious citizens.
According to her, education goes beyond the acquisition of academic knowledge and serves as an important instrument for strengthening democracy, promoting social harmony and developing a sense of responsibility towards the nation.
Naz urged students to uphold the ideals enshrined in the Constitution and embrace the principles of unity in diversity, discipline, integrity, inclusiveness and social responsibility.
She encouraged them to pursue excellence in education, respect democratic values and participate actively in the development of society and the nation.
The programme concluded with staff and students reaffirming their commitment to performing their responsibilities with dedication, honesty and integrity and contributing to nation-building while upholding the constitutional ideals of justice, liberty, equality and fraternity.
Independence Day at GMS Moghalpura
Independence Day was also celebrated at Government Middle School (GMS), Moghalpura, where a solemn function was organised in the presence of local dignitaries, parents, students and teaching staff.
The programme was presided over by Headmaster Muhammad Rafi Bajar.
Addressing the gathering, Bajar stressed the importance of inculcating love for the nation, loyalty and a spirit of service among citizens.
He said every citizen has a responsibility to discharge their duties with honesty and sincerity for the progress and prosperity of the country.
Bajar further emphasised that citizens should remain committed to serving the nation and bringing honour to the country through hard work, competence and good character.
Referring to the role of students, he said young people represent the future of the nation and therefore need to be provided not only with quality education but also with values of patriotism, discipline, unity and national responsibility.
The celebrations concluded with special prayers for the security, progress and prosperity of the country.
The programmes held across Kashmir Division reflected the diverse role of educational institutions and government organisations in marking Independence Day, while reinforcing messages of national unity, responsible citizenship, youth empowerment, skill development, entrepreneurship and commitment to the country’s development.
