DC Ramban reviews Pernote landslide site, directs faster restoration of Ramban-Gool road

RAMBAN, July 26: Deputy Commissioner Ramban, Mohammad Alyas Khan, on Sunday visited the landslide and subsidence-hit area at Pernote on the Ramban-Gool Road to assess the damage caused by recent heavy rainfall and review the progress of restoration work being carried out to restore road connectivity.
Senior Superintendent of Police Arun Gupta, Assistant Commissioner Revenue Shokat Hayat Mattoo and other district officers accompanied the Deputy Commissioner during the inspection.
The Deputy Commissioner inspected the restoration work being undertaken by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) on the nearly 300-metre stretch of the Ramban-Gool Road that has suffered major subsidence, disrupting the crucial road link between Ramban and Gool.
During the visit, officials informed the Deputy Commissioner that restoration work is being carried out on a war footing with the deployment of heavy machinery and adequate manpower to remove debris and repair the damaged road section.
Reviewing the progress, Mohammad Alyas Khan directed the executing agency to further speed up the restoration work by deploying additional machinery and manpower to ensure the earliest possible restoration of traffic on the affected road.
He also took up the matter with senior BRO officials and stressed the need to complete the restoration work at the earliest, considering the importance of the road for residents of the area.
Expressing concern over public safety, the Deputy Commissioner appealed to residents and commuters to stay away from the subsidence-affected area, warning that the ground remains unstable and vulnerable to further landslides. He urged the public to cooperate with the authorities engaged in the restoration operations.
The district administration, in coordination with the BRO and other line departments, is closely monitoring the situation and taking all necessary measures to ensure public safety and restore normal traffic movement on the Ramban-Gool Road as early as possible.
