CM Omar Abdullah hoists National Flag, reiterates commitment to restore J&K statehood

SRINAGAR, AUGUST 15: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Saturday hoisted the National Flag at the 80th Independence Day function at Bakhshi Stadium, Srinagar, and took the salute at the ceremonial parade and march-past, reiterating his government’s commitment to restoring statehood and constitutional guarantees for the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
Beginning his address with the patriotic verse, “Sare Jahan Se Achha, Hindustan Hamara; Hum Bulbulein Hain Iski, Yeh Gulistan Hamara,” Omar Abdullah said the words reflected the love, pride and emotional bond people share with the country.
He said Independence Day was an occasion not only to celebrate but also to remember the sacrifices made for India’s freedom and reflect on whether the vision of those who made the supreme sacrifice had been fully realised.
“Today is a day of joy, a day of remembrance and a day of gratitude,” the Chief Minister said, paying tribute to those who sacrificed their lives for the country’s freedom.
He reaffirmed his government’s resolve to build a stronger Jammu and Kashmir and take the Union Territory to new heights of development, prosperity and progress.
Statehood and constitutional guarantees
A major focus of the Chief Minister’s address was the restoration of statehood and constitutional guarantees for Jammu and Kashmir.
Omar Abdullah said his government would continue to represent and serve the people while working to fulfil the aspirations of those who sacrificed their lives for the freedom and future of the region.
“We will continue to represent you. We will continue to serve you. We will continue to do our work to bring Jammu and Kashmir to that level,” he said.
The Chief Minister said the government would continue its efforts for restoration of the constitutional guarantees of Jammu and Kashmir and regaining its statehood, while simultaneously working to usher in a new era of development.
“Whether it is to bring Jammu & Kashmir to that level again, whether it is to restore the constitutional guarantees of Jammu and Kashmir, whether it is to regain the special status of Jammu & Kashmir, or whether it is to start a new era of progress in J&K, your government is not only a promise for all these things, but your government will make it a reality,” he said.
Focus on youth, development and employment
Omar Abdullah said the government’s efforts were aimed at creating an environment in which every young person, including those living in villages, could see hope for a better future.
He said Jammu and Kashmir needed to move away from uncertainty towards greater stability, development and opportunity.
The Chief Minister stressed that development, prosperity and employment could not be achieved merely through speeches or promises, and that the real test of governance lay in converting commitments into tangible results.
He said his government would continue working to ensure that people saw concrete improvements in their lives and that young people received greater opportunities to build their futures within Jammu and Kashmir.
Independence Day as an occasion for reflection
Reflecting on the 80 years since Independence, Omar Abdullah said the occasion represented more than a celebration.
He described Independence Day as a time for remembrance, gratitude and introspection, particularly about the India envisioned by those who made the ultimate sacrifice for freedom.
He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to contributing towards an India marked by greater progress, peace, brotherhood and happiness while working to fulfil the aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
The Chief Minister said his government would continue to work with determination to take Jammu and Kashmir towards a more prosperous future and fulfil the dreams of those who had sacrificed for its future.
