SRINAGAR, AUGUST 4: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Tuesday said India’s economic credibility rests on transparency, accountability and trust, urging officers of the Indian Corporate Law Service (ICLS) to strengthen corporate governance and safeguard investor confidence to realise the vision of Viksit Bharat@2047.

The Lieutenant Governor made these remarks while interacting with officer trainees of the Indian Corporate Law Service at Raj Bhavan.

Addressing the trainees, Sinha said that while India has emerged as one of the world’s fastest-growing economies, true economic strength is determined not only by production, investment and trade but also by the robustness of institutions, adherence to the rule of law, protection of investors’ interests and transparent governance.

He described the Indian Corporate Law Service as a key pillar of India’s corporate governance framework and said its officers play a vital role in implementing important legislations, including the Companies Act and the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code.

“Their work ensures a balanced environment for industry, trade and investment, fostering trust and credibility in India’s corporate sector. The identity of a developed economy also lies in institutional systems that encourage honest enterprises and effectively monitor irregularities,” he said.

The Lieutenant Governor observed that the ICLS serves as a guardian of corporate governance by ensuring that economic growth contributes to inclusive national development.

He said investor confidence remains one of India’s greatest strengths as the country continues to attract global investments. According to him, this confidence is reinforced when companies operate transparently, maintain financial discipline and prompt action is taken against irregularities.

Sinha said rapid economic growth, responsible institutions, transparent governance, ethical business practices and a strong legal framework are essential for inclusive development. He added that the Indian Corporate Law Service would serve as a vital bridge of trust between industry and governance in achieving the country’s long-term development goals.

The ICLS officer trainees of the 2023 and 2024 batches, accompanied by Registrar of Companies, Jammu and Kashmir, Haamid Bukhari, also shared their experiences and learnings from their domestic study tour to Jammu and Kashmir.
