Cluster University of Jammu holds key finance, syndicate meetings

JAMMU, SEPT 3: Cluster University of Jammu (CLUJ) convened its 6th Finance Committee Meeting and 5th University Syndicate Meeting at the Conference Hall of the Vice-Chancellor Secretariat, with Vice-Chancellor Prof. K. S. Chandrasekar chairing both meetings.
The Finance Committee meeting, held at noon, discussed several financial and administrative matters, including the Revised Budget Estimates for 2024-25 and 2025-26, Proposed Budget Estimates for 2026-27, upgradation of pay scales of Laboratory Assistants, amendments relating to the General Provident Fund and approval of the University’s Annual Accounts.
The committee also considered a proposed Rs. 65.49 crore capital budget for 2026-27. The proposals included preparation of a Master Plan for campus development, construction of a prefabricated block and campus administrative block, sewerage and drainage works, and upgradation of the Language Lab and Research Innovation Resource Centre. Ongoing projects, including the Controller of Examinations Building, boundary wall and Vice-Chancellor’s Lodge, were also reviewed.
The 5th University Syndicate Meeting began at 1 pm, with Registrar Ms. Ankur Mahajan presenting the agenda. The Syndicate considered matters related to academics, research, examinations, administration and statutory affairs.
Among the academic proposals were implementation of provisions relating to the Four-Year Undergraduate Programme (FYUGP) and Integrated Teacher Education Programme (ITEP), new and revised postgraduate programmes, recognition of Ph.D. Research Supervisors, research dissertation guidelines, and introduction of new academic subjects and programmes.
The meeting also considered the re-introduction of integrated M.Sc. programmes in Botany, Zoology, Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics and the introduction of an Integrated Postgraduate Programme in Geography. Proposals for creation of a Department of Vedic Studies and introduction of a Postgraduate Diploma in Sanatana Dharma and Indian Knowledge Systems were also discussed.
Other matters included adoption of UGC Guidelines for engagement of Professors of Practice, amendments to University Statutes, introduction of Information Technology as a Minor Subject, recruitment-related matters, provisions for counting past service of Assistant Professors under the Career Advancement Scheme (CAS), and advertisement of the posts of Controller of Examinations and Assistant Librarian.
Vice-Chancellor Prof. K. S. Chandrasekar stressed the importance of financial management, academic excellence, expansion of innovative programmes, and strengthening research and infrastructure facilities for the sustained growth of the University.
The meetings were attended by members of the respective Finance Committee and University Syndicate as per the approved nominations.
