Fixation committee reviews seed procurement rates for Rabi 2026-27

Jammu, August 7: The Fixation Committee on Friday reviewed the procurement, landed and sale rates of Toria (all varieties) and open-pollinated vegetable seeds for the Rabi 2026-27 season, besides discussing the sale rates of potato seed tubers during a meeting held at Krishi Bhawan, Talab Tillo.
The meeting was chaired by Director Agriculture Production & Farmers Welfare, Jammu, Anil Gupta. Director Agriculture, Kashmir, Sartaj Ahmad Shah, participated in the meeting through video conferencing.
Among those present were Joint Director Agriculture (Inputs) Sanjay Anand; Chief Scientist, Plant Breeding and Genetics, SKUAST-Jammu, Parveen Singh; Professor, Department of Vegetable Science and Floriculture, SKUAST-Jammu, Anil Bhushan; Nodal Officer (Seed), SKUAST-Jammu, Vijay Bharti; Potato Development Officer Ravi Sharma; Divisional Seed Certification Officer Nirmal Prakash Sharma, besides other members of the committee.
The committee held detailed deliberations on the prevailing procurement and landed costs of different categories of seeds and examined the rates proposed for the forthcoming Rabi season. The discussions focused on ensuring the timely availability of quality seed material at reasonable rates for farmers across the Jammu division.
Addressing the meeting, Anil Gupta emphasised the need to ensure the timely availability of high-quality vegetable and potato seeds to farmers. He directed that both open-pollinated and hybrid vegetable seeds should be included in the procurement plan, with hybrid seeds accounting for more than 25 per cent of the total supply.
The Director also instructed officials of the Vegetable Improvement Scheme (VIS), Jammu, to collect district-wise seed demand from all Chief Agriculture Officers, clearly indicating the major crops and varieties required so that procurement could be planned in line with field-level requirements.
Gupta further called for strict adherence to the prescribed cropping pattern at departmental farms and stressed that seed production and procurement planning should remain aligned with the actual requirements of farmers to ensure the availability of quality planting material for the Rabi 2026-27 season.
