CM Omar Abdullah inspects Sungal Tunnel, reviews final-stage progress

NOWSHERA, AUGUST 6: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Thursday inspected the ongoing works on the strategically important Sungal Tunnel while returning from Rajouri to Jammu and reviewed the progress of the project, which is in its final stages of completion.
During the inspection, officials briefed the Chief Minister on the current status of construction and the remaining works. They informed him that the tunnel is nearing completion and is expected to be opened to all traffic shortly. Officials also said that essential services, including ambulances, are currently being allowed to pass through the tunnel to facilitate emergency movement.
Reviewing the pace of execution, Omar Abdullah stressed the need to complete the remaining works expeditiously while ensuring the highest standards of quality and safety.
The Chief Minister had earlier inspected the Sungal Tunnel project on April 20 this year, when he reviewed the progress of excavation, structural works and associated road development.
Officials of Project Sampark of the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) informed the Chief Minister that the 2.79-kilometre-long tunnel, being constructed across the Kalidhar Range, will significantly improve connectivity by reducing travel time by approximately 40 to 45 minutes.
