LG launches ‘Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat Sankalp Abhiyan’

SRINAGAR, AUGUST: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha launched the “Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat Sankalp Abhiyan” in Jammu and Kashmir, urging young people to lead the fight against drug abuse and actively contribute to nation-building.
The UT-level programme, organised by the Department of Youth Affairs and Sports in collaboration with SKUAST-Kashmir, coincided with the nationwide launch of the 100-week campaign, virtually inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Addressing the gathering, the Lieutenant Governor said India’s greatest strength lies in its young population, with nearly 65 per cent of citizens below the age of 35 and around 37 crore youth in the 15–29 age group ready to contribute to the country’s development.
“The Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat Sankalp Abhiyan seeks to energise this demographic, guiding them towards healthy lifestyles and active participation in development. Our youth must emerge like a cloud of energy and spread across the horizon of development,” he said.
Sinha described the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, launched in 2020, as not merely a government programme but a nationwide social movement against drug abuse. He said the initiative aims to promote self-discipline, positive thinking and determination among citizens.
He noted that more than one crore youth are participating in the campaign at nearly 10,000 locations across the country, while over 35,000 MY Bharat youth clubs, Nehru Yuva Kendras, educational institutions and industry organisations have joined the 100-week initiative, which will engage young people every Sunday.
Expressing confidence in the campaign’s success, the Lieutenant Governor said it would become a significant milestone in eliminating the drug menace from society.
Congratulating the youth of Jammu and Kashmir, Sinha lauded their active participation in the 100-day Nasha Mukt J&K Abhiyan, conducted from April 11 to July 20, describing it as a model for the rest of the country.
He said the campaign demonstrated that major social challenges can be overcome through collective efforts by the administration, police, educational institutions, social organisations, religious leaders and citizens.
“A healthy youth, a strong family, and an aware public will become the identity of Viksit Bharat,” the Lieutenant Governor said.
