DC Kishtwar reviews restoration work in cloudburst-hit Chatroo

KISHTWAR, AUGUST: Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar Pankaj Kumar Sharma visited the cloudburst-affected area of Urigad Reshi Nallah in Chatroo subdivision to assess restoration and rehabilitation works following the devastating cloudburst that struck the village in the early hours.

The Deputy Commissioner inspected the affected site and reviewed the progress of ongoing restoration efforts aimed at restoring essential services and providing timely relief to the affected families.

During the visit, Sharma interacted with local residents, listened to their grievances and issued on-the-spot directions to the concerned departments for immediate redressal of public issues.

To expedite restoration, he directed the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) to continue clearing slush and debris from the affected area and undertake restoration of the damaged road once the ground conditions become suitable. He also asked the agency to examine the feasibility of constructing an appropriate cross-drainage structure to safely channel flash flood waters and minimise the impact of similar incidents in the future.

The Deputy Commissioner further instructed the Irrigation and Flood Control Department to prepare and submit a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the construction of flood protection works in the affected area.

Sharma also directed the Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Chatroo, to closely monitor the ongoing restoration works and asked all concerned departments to speed up rehabilitation efforts on a war footing and complete the work within the stipulated timeframe.
