Udhampur reviews implementation of Supreme Court directions on child protection

UDHAMPUR, JULY 31: A meeting was convened under the chairpersonship of the Principal District and Sessions Judge, Udhampur, on Friday to review the implementation of the Supreme Court’s directions aimed at strengthening child protection measures and combating human trafficking.

The meeting was held in the office chamber of the Principal District and Sessions Judge to discuss compliance with the directions issued by the Supreme Court of India in G Ganesh vs State of Tamil Nadu and Others (SLP (Criminal) No. 11263/2025).

The deliberations focused on strengthening the institutional framework for addressing cases of missing children, child trafficking, child rescue, restoration, rehabilitation and improving coordination among various departments and agencies involved in child protection.

The action points approved by the Supreme Court were discussed in detail to ensure their effective implementation at the district level.

Representatives of the Anti Human Trafficking Unit, Special Juvenile Police Unit, District Child Protection Unit, Child Welfare Committee and the Department of Women and Child Development participated in the meeting.

During the discussions, emphasis was laid on enhancing coordination among all stakeholder departments, ensuring prompt response in cases involving missing and trafficked children, strengthening rehabilitation mechanisms for rescued victims and adopting a child-centric approach in accordance with the Supreme Court’s directions.

The Principal District and Sessions Judge directed all departments concerned to implement the approved action points in close coordination to ensure effective protection of children’s rights and welfare across the district.
