DLSA Reasi holds awareness programmes on Child Helpline 1098

REASI, JULY 28: District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Reasi organised a series of awareness programmes across the district to educate people about Child Helpline 1098, mediation, pre-litigation dispute resolution and the role of Legal Aid Clinics in ensuring access to justice.
The Para Legal Volunteers (PLVs) of Legal Aid Clinic (LAC) Kunderdhan, through Tehsil Legal Services Committee (TLSC) Mahore, conducted an awareness programme on Child Helpline 1098 at Primary School Kunderdhan, Seasonal Centre Dewal Marg Mahore, LAC Channa Neosi and other locations in Tehsil Mahore.
School children, teachers and local residents were informed that Child Helpline 1098 is a 24×7 emergency toll-free service providing immediate assistance to children in distress, including victims of abuse, neglect, exploitation, child labour, trafficking, missing children and those in need of care and protection. Participants were encouraged to seek timely assistance whenever a child is at risk. The PLVs also highlighted the availability of free legal aid for eligible persons under the Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987.
In another programme, the PLVs of Legal Aid Clinic Chassana organised an awareness session on mediation and pre-litigation matter applications at PYT Thillo. The participants were sensitised about mediation as a speedy and amicable mechanism for resolving disputes without prolonged litigation.
The PLVs explained that family, property, financial, neighbourhood and other civil disputes can be settled through pre-litigation mediation before cases are filed in courts. They also guided participants on the procedure for filing pre-litigation matter applications before the Legal Services Institutions.
Meanwhile, the PLVs of DLSA Reasi organised an awareness programme on the Role of Legal Aid Clinics at Government Higher Secondary School, Gran Goswan, Reasi.
The resource person informed participants that Legal Aid Clinics provide free legal advice, assistance and guidance to poor and marginalised people, women, children, senior citizens and other vulnerable sections of society. The role of Para Legal Volunteers in bridging the gap between the legal system and the community was also highlighted.
The participants were further made aware of various welfare schemes being implemented through the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) and the Jammu and Kashmir Legal Services Authority (J&K LSA). They were encouraged to resolve disputes through lawful and peaceful means while making full use of the legal aid services available to them.
