CLUJ celebrates sporting excellence; holds prize distribution ceremony

JAMMU, AUGUST 19: Cluster University of Jammu (CLUJ) celebrated the achievements of its outstanding student-athletes at its Annual Prize Distribution Ceremony 2026 held at the auditorium of Government College for Women (GCW), Gandhi Nagar here today.
The ceremony, organised under the supervision of the Department of Student Welfare (DSW) and coordinated by the Department of Physical Education and Sports, honoured sportspersons from the University’s constituent colleges for their achievements in various sporting disciplines.
A major highlight of the event was the announcement of financial support for the development of Cluster University of Jammu. Rajya Sabha MP Sat Paul Sharma announced ₹5 lakh from his MPLAD funds, while Bahu MLA Vikram Randhawa pledged ₹5 lakh from his Constituency Development Fund (CDF) for development-related initiatives of the University.
The programme was attended by Sat Paul Sharma as Chief Guest, Vikram Randhawa as Guest of Honour and Kuldeep Gupta, General Secretary of the J&K Kabaddi Association, as Special Guest. Vice-Chancellor Prof. K. S. Chandrasekar presided over the ceremony.
Dr. Vinod Bakshi presented the Annual Sports Report and highlighted the University’s achievements in different sporting disciplines. He appreciated the commitment and dedication of student-athletes, coaches and Physical Education personnel and underlined the role of sports in promoting discipline, leadership, teamwork, resilience, confidence and a healthy competitive spirit among young people.
Prof. Chandrasekar congratulated the award-winning players and appreciated the efforts of the Department of Physical Education and Sports, the DSW team, coaches and administrations of constituent colleges in promoting sporting excellence. He said sports were an integral component of holistic education and played an important role in building character, confidence, leadership qualities and perseverance among students.
The ceremony also featured an impressive Yoga Display, showcasing the discipline, concentration, flexibility and physical fitness of the participating students. This was followed by the felicitation of outstanding sportspersons who brought laurels to the University through commendable performances at various levels.
Consolation prizes, medals and other honours were also presented to deserving players representing the University’s constituent colleges. Awards were presented to outstanding sportspersons from Government College of Education (GCOE), MAM College, SPMR College of Commerce, GCW Gandhi Nagar and GGM Science College in recognition of their achievements in different sporting disciplines.
GGM Science College, Jammu, emerged as the Overall Champion after securing the maximum number of prizes across various sporting events and was presented the Overall Championship Trophy.
Vikram Randhawa congratulated the players on their achievements and appreciated the University authorities, coaches and Physical Education personnel for providing students with opportunities to participate in sports and develop a competitive spirit. He said sporting accomplishments brought recognition not only to individual players but also enhanced the prestige of educational institutions and the University.
Chief Guest Sat Paul Sharma congratulated the student-athletes for their achievements and appreciated Cluster University of Jammu for providing a platform to recognise and encourage sporting talent. He stressed the need to motivate young people to participate actively in sports and pursue excellence with dedication, discipline and perseverance.
Sharma announced an allocation of ₹5 lakh from his MPLAD funds for the development of the University, while Randhawa announced ₹5 lakh from his CDF for development-related initiatives. The announcements were warmly appreciated by the University fraternity and were seen as a strong expression of support for strengthening educational and sports infrastructure at Cluster University of Jammu.
The distinguished gathering included Dean Academic Affairs Dr. Twinkle Suri, Registrar Ankur Mahajan and Controller of Examinations Prof. Ranvijay Singh, besides various Deans of the University, Principals of constituent colleges, Associate and Assistant Deans of Student Welfare, officers of the Department of Physical Education and Sports, Physical Directors, faculty members, coaches and other University functionaries.
Dr. Sugandha Mahajan conducted the proceedings of the programme. The event culminated with the presentation of the Overall Championship Trophy.
Dean Students’ Welfare Prof. Vishal Sharma proposed the vote of thanks and expressed gratitude to the Chief Guest, Guest of Honour, Special Guest, Vice-Chancellor, University officers, Deans, Principals, faculty members, coaches, Physical Education personnel, students and all those who contributed to the successful organisation of the Annual Prize Distribution Ceremony 2026.
