National Deworming Day: 1.85 lakh children targeted in Kathua district

KATHUA, AUGUST 10: The District Administration Kathua on Monday launched the National Deworming Day campaign at Government Girls Higher Secondary School, with nearly 1.85 lakh children targeted for deworming across the district.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Mahima Madan launched the campaign by administering deworming tablets to schoolchildren. She underscored that the initiative aims to create awareness about the importance of regular deworming, personal hygiene and preventive healthcare among children and adolescents.
Highlighting the health benefits of deworming, Mahima Madan said intestinal worm infections can adversely affect the nutritional status of children and may lead to anaemia and impaired physical and cognitive development.
She appealed to parents and guardians to ensure that their children receive the prescribed deworming tablets during the campaign period.
The ADC further informed that dedicated teams have been constituted to ensure maximum coverage. Field functionaries will visit schools and Anganwadi Centres to administer the tablets in a systematic manner.
A mass recitation of ‘Vande Mataram’ was also held at the school, with enthusiastic participation from students and staff. The programme highlighted the importance of civic values, national unity and responsible citizenship among the younger generation.
Earlier, Chief Medical Officer Vijay Raina informed that nearly 1.85 lakh children in the age group of 1 to 19 years are being covered under the campaign. The beneficiaries include children studying in government and private schools as well as those registered at Anganwadi Centres.
He further informed that a mop-up day has been scheduled for August 17, 2026, to ensure that children who may have been left out during the main campaign are also covered.
