Kathua Police seize 23 grams of heroin-like substance

KATHUA, AUGUST 10: Continuing its drive against drug trafficking and the growing menace of narcotics, J&K Police Kathua has seized approximately 23 grams of heroin-like substance and arrested two suspected drug smugglers in the Ramkot area.
The action was carried out on August 9 by a police team led by the Incharge Police Post (PP) Ramkot under the supervision of SP Operations Upper Kathua, SDPO Billawar and SHO Police Station Billawar.
Acting on reliable intelligence regarding the movement of suspected narcotics smugglers, the police team established a special naka and checking point in the Galak area of Ramkot.
During checking, two persons travelling towards Galak under suspicious circumstances were intercepted and apprehended. They were identified as Pawan Dev Singh, son of Krishan Dev, resident of Bobay, Majalta, Udhampur, and Naresh Singh, son of Chakkar Dev Singh, resident of Makwal, Ramkot, Kathua.
Police said approximately 20 grams of heroin-like substance was recovered from Pawan Dev Singh, while another three grams of the suspected narcotic substance was recovered from Naresh Singh, taking the total recovery to approximately 23 grams.
The recovered substance was seized and both accused were taken into police custody on the spot.
In connection with the recovery, a case has been registered under FIR No. 165/2026 under Sections 8, 21, 22 and 29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at Police Station Billawar.
Further investigation into the case is underway to establish the source of the narcotics and identify possible links in the supply network.
Kathua Police reiterated its appeal to the public to come forward and share information regarding drug trafficking or any other illicit activity in their areas. Information can be shared with the police on 112 or 9858034100.
Police assured that the identity of informants would be kept confidential.
The latest action is part of the ongoing efforts of J&K Police to curb drug trafficking and dismantle networks involved in the illegal supply of narcotics in the region.
