J&K Judicial Academy concludes induction training for 39 civil judges

SRINAGAR, AUGUST 7: The Jammu and Kashmir Judicial Academy on Thursday concluded the academy-based phase of the Pre-Appointment Induction Training Programme for 39 trainee Civil Judges (Junior Division), Batch-2026, with Acting Chief Justice of the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh Justice Sanjeev Kumar calling upon the newly appointed judicial officers to uphold the highest standards of integrity, impartiality and constitutional values.
The induction programme was conducted under the patronage of Acting Chief Justice Justice Sanjeev Kumar and the guidance of Justice Rajnesh Oswal, Judge of the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh and Chairman of the Governing Committee of the J&K Judicial Academy.
The valedictory function was attended by Registrar General of the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh M. K. Sharma and other judicial officers of the registry.
Interacting with the trainee Civil Judges, the Acting Chief Justice congratulated them on successfully completing the academy-based phase of the induction programme and said the training had equipped them with the knowledge, skills and values required for the effective discharge of judicial responsibilities.
He said the office of a judge is not merely a position of authority but a solemn constitutional trust that demands the highest standards of integrity, impartiality, patience, humility and unwavering commitment to the rule of law.
Emphasising the importance of fairness in the justice delivery system, he observed that justice must not only be done but must also be seen to be done. He urged the trainee officers to remain vigilant against every form of personal, social, cultural or unconscious bias and ensure that every judicial decision is guided solely by the Constitution, the law and the evidence placed on record.
Justice Sanjeev Kumar also highlighted the challenges confronting the justice delivery system, including inadequate judicial infrastructure and shortage of judicial officers. He said these challenges require greater efficiency, resilience and commitment from judicial officers without compromising the quality or fairness of justice.
He urged the trainee judges to remain fearless and independent in the discharge of their duties, maintain courtesy and compassion in their conduct, embrace technology to strengthen the justice delivery system and pursue continuous learning to meet the evolving demands of judicial service.
Appreciating the efforts of the Director, resource persons, officers and staff of the J&K Judicial Academy in conducting the induction programme, the Acting Chief Justice expressed confidence that the newly appointed Civil Judges would uphold the highest traditions of the Indian judiciary and discharge their constitutional responsibilities with courage, wisdom, integrity and compassion.
Addressing the trainee officers, Registrar General of the High Court M. K. Sharma described their appointment as the acceptance of a solemn constitutional responsibility. He said the office of a judge is a public trust and urged them to uphold the highest standards of integrity, impartiality, patience, humility and diligence. He also advised them to treat every litigant with dignity, uphold the rule of law without fear or favour and continue enhancing their legal knowledge through continuous learning and technological advancement.
