55 bottles of illicit liquor seized in Billawar, bootlegger arrested

KATHUA, AUGUST 1: Police arrested an alleged bootlegger and seized 55 bottles of JK Special Whisky during a naka checking operation at Dambra Morh in the Billawar area of Kathua district.
According to police, a special checking naka was established by a team from Police Station Billawar at Dambra Morh on Friday. During the checking, the police intercepted and apprehended Narinder Kumar, son of Jia Lal, a resident of Dambra, Tehsil Mahanpur, District Kathua.
During the search, the police recovered 55 bottles of JK Excise Special Whisky (180 ml each), allegedly being transported illegally for sale and unlawful profit.
A case has been registered at Police Station Billawar under FIR No. 158/2026 under Section 48(a) of the Excise Act, and further investigation is underway.
The operation was conducted by the police team led by the SHO of Police Station Billawar under the supervision of the SP Operations, Upper Kathua, and the SDPO Billawar.
Police said the drive is part of its ongoing campaign to curb the illegal trade and transportation of liquor in the district.
SSP Kathua Mohita Sharma said strict action would continue against anyone found involved in the illegal trade or transportation of illicit liquor.
Police also said local residents appreciated the action, expressing hope that such operations would discourage others from engaging in similar illegal activities.
