Sakeena Itoo sanctions ₹5.29 crore Academic-cum-Library Block for GDC Women Zakura

SRINAGAR, July 27: Jammu and Kashmir Minister for Health and Medical Education, Social Welfare and Education, Sakeena Itoo on Monday announced the construction of a new Academic-cum-Library Block at Government Degree College (Women), Zakura, at an estimated cost of ₹5.29 crore to strengthen the institution’s academic infrastructure.
The announcement was made during the Minister’s visit to the college, where she reviewed its academic functioning and assessed its infrastructural requirements. She was accompanied by Hazratbal MLA Salman Ali Sagar, Director Colleges Prof. (Dr.) Sheikh Ajaz Bashir and senior officers of the Higher Education Department and other line departments.
During the visit, the Minister held detailed discussions with the college administration regarding the institution’s present facilities and future development plans. She said the newly sanctioned Academic-cum-Library Block would significantly enhance the college’s infrastructure, provide improved learning facilities and meet the growing academic needs of students.
Interacting with students from various departments, Sakeena Itoo urged them to pursue academic excellence with dedication and discipline. She encouraged them to embrace innovation, strengthen their skills and contribute meaningfully to society and nation-building.
The Minister also listened to students’ suggestions and aspirations, assuring them that the government remains committed to creating a conducive environment for quality higher education across Jammu and Kashmir.
Addressing the gathering, Sakeena Itoo said the Omar Abdullah-led government is focused on upgrading educational infrastructure and equipping higher educational institutions with modern facilities in line with contemporary academic standards. She said investment in education remains one of the government’s highest priorities.
MLA Salman Ali Sagar appreciated the efforts of the college administration in promoting quality education and said the new Academic-cum-Library Block would further strengthen the institution’s academic ecosystem.
Director Colleges Prof. (Dr.) Sheikh Ajaz Bashir stressed the need for continuous improvement in educational infrastructure and assured full support for the overall development of the college.
The Principal, faculty members and staff expressed gratitude to the Minister for sanctioning the project and said the new facility would significantly improve the teaching-learning environment and benefit students for years to come.
