Carney praises Hindu community’s contribution to Canada’s growth at Dhanteras gala
TORONTO, AUGUST: Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney has lauded the country’s Hindu community for its significant contributions to Canada’s economic, social and cultural development, describing it as a vibrant force that continues to strengthen the nation’s diverse and inclusive society.
In a message to the annual Dhanteras gala organised by the Canadian Hindu Chamber of Commerce (CHCC), Carney said Hindu Canadians had made notable contributions across sectors such as information technology, software development, healthcare, engineering and public service.
“Their innovation, leadership and service have strengthened Canada’s social, cultural and economic fabric,” the Prime Minister said, adding that the community’s values, traditions and spirit of service continued to enrich the country.
The annual CHCC event was held for the first time in Calgary, Alberta. Carney also commended the chamber for supporting businesses and contributing to the Canadian economy.
Welcoming participants, Alberta Premier Danielle Smith praised the entrepreneurial spirit of the community, saying business leaders and innovators from the Hindu community continued to play an important role in keeping Alberta and Canada economically strong.
Leader of the Opposition Pierre Poilievre also congratulated the community, saying its success in business, commitment to philanthropy and dedication to preserving cultural heritage were helping build a stronger and more prosperous Canada.
Messages of appreciation were also sent by Ontario Premier Doug Ford and Saskatchewan Premier Scott Moe.
During the gala, the CHCC Global Hindu Award was presented to senior Pakistani parliamentarian and minority leader Dr Ramesh Kumar Vankwani. Former MLA Peter Singh received the President’s Award, while former Alberta Cabinet Minister Leela Aheer was honoured with the Inspiring Women of Excellence Award. Physician and entrepreneur Dr Hasmukh Patel was presented the Lifetime Achievement Award for his contributions to healthcare and the construction industry.
