Acting Chief Justice leads plantation drive at High Court under ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign

JAMMU, JULY 30: Acting Chief Justice of the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, Justice Sanjeev Kumar, on Thursday led a plantation drive at the High Court Complex, Janipur, Jammu, under the nationwide “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” campaign, reaffirming the judiciary’s commitment to environmental conservation and sustainable development.
The plantation drive was organised in collaboration with the Jammu Forest Division and witnessed the participation of judges, judicial officers, members of the Bar and officials of the Forest Department.
Judges of the High Court, Justice Sindhu Sharma, Justice Rajnesh Oswal, Justice Mohd. Akram Chowdhary, Justice Wasim Sadiq Nargal, Justice Rajesh Sekhri and Justice Sanjay Parihar, actively participated in the drive by planting saplings of medicinal and ecologically significant tree species, including Rudraksh, Putranjiva and Sita Ashok.
The initiative aimed to promote a cleaner, greener and healthier environment while encouraging collective responsibility towards preserving nature for future generations.
Among those present were M. K. Sharma, Registrar General, High Court of J&K and Ladakh; Nirmal Kotwal, President, Jammu & Kashmir High Court Bar Association, Jammu; Pardeep Wahule, Conservator of Forests, East Circle; officers of the High Court Registry; members of the Executive Committee; and members of the Bar Association, who also participated in the plantation drive.
On the occasion, Om Parkash Vidyarthi (Retd. IFS) delivered a special “Tree Talk”, highlighting the medicinal, ecological and religious significance of the saplings planted during the programme.
Drawing upon his extensive experience in forestry and environmental conservation, Vidyarthi explained the unique characteristics and traditional importance of Rudraksh, Putranjiva and Sita Ashok, while emphasising the need to protect and preserve indigenous tree species for ecological balance and public well-being.
